In today’s ever-changing world of internet, blogs, and social networking websites, it’s difficult to keep up with the times. In fact, the amount of social networking websites can be overwhelming. Should you be on Facebook, Myspace, or Linked In, and why should you care? As a freelance artist you must remember the entire point of social networking websites and blogs are to create an online presence. In other words, you utilize these tools to network and drive traffic to your personal website. The point is to let people know about your freelance hair and makeup services so that you can make money. The problem is knowing how to effectively use these sites so you are not wasting your time.

First and foremost you must have a website. Make sure that each of your website pages has key words in the page’s URL that will clearly describe to search engines what is on that page. So if you have a website page that contains your resume, it should read something like: http://www.myartist website.com/resume. If you have a demo reel you should post is on places like Youtube. Be sure to post photos of your work on Facebook and Myspace and be sure to update people constantly about what you have recently worked on. Most importantly blog blog blog! By blogging you are positioning yourself as the expert. Maybe you can give tips and trends to other professionals. Get other beauty bloggers to visit your site by reading theirs, commenting on it, and leaving a link to your site. Remember the entire point is to get your website in the top of the search engine rankings by having your name mentioned in as many places on the internet and you can. More importantly, you want people to visit your website. This will increase your chances of getting into the top of the web search as well.

Recently, The Hair & Makeup Artist Network held a class on Internet Marketing with web guru Matt Dandurand from Media Contour. To learn more about how you can get the most out of blogging and social networking websites visit http://www.hmartistsnetwork.com/client and watch our video tutorial.
