So What Is The Hair & Makeup Artist Network Anyway????

For the past couple of years, I have been posting blogs under “The Hair & Makeup Artist Network’s Marketing Tips.” So what exactly is The Hair & Makeup Artist Network? Is it a blog? Is it just another fan page on Facebook? Or is it another social networking website? To put is short, we the first real live networking organization for Hair & Makeup Artists by Hair & Makeup Artists. I say, “real live networking organization” because we aren’t just another social networking website. Our goal is to provide networking opportunities through networking events, business education for self-employed artists, business tools, and business resources. Our goal is to be “One Resource For All Your Freelance Business Needs,” so you can be more successful at what you do. Lets face it, business isn’t exactly taught to freelance artists. It’s something you learn along the way. Whether you like it or not, the creative profession you chose is a business. So we are here to help.

Networking organizations are nothing new. They have been around much longer than social networking websites and most every industry out there has one under their belt…..except Hair & Makeup Artists. There is the Chamber of Commerce, The For You Network, Women in Film, Film Independent, Los Angeles Music Network, and list could go on and on.

It always strikes me as odd that we don’t have a networking organization when most of the work we get will be from networking. I guess the fashion and entertainment industry has been operating for so long on agents, unions, and now the internet that it never occurred to anyone a networking organization was needed. But the industry is changing. It becomes more and more competitive every day. I really believe that ones who will survive are not only the talented, but the networkers and the hustlers. It is not an industry for the weekly paycheck collector. You have to be willing to invest time, money, and effort to be top artist in this business. You have to really want it and you have to be persistent about it. Not only that, but the competition is now calling for you to be not only a great artist, but a shrewd business person as well. This means you will have to network to find the work, keep track of your inventory (your kit), negotiate what you are worth (your rate), know the labor laws (be the attorney), advertise your services (the marketing department), and do your invoicing/taxes (the accountant).

The Hair & Makeup Artist Network is just trying to make it easier for you by providing you with:
